P-SQUARE TALKS ABOUT THE ‘LANDLORD BEATING’ ISSUE-WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.

main

When, mid this year, Chief Charles Nwangwa called for a press conference to unearth some cankerworms about on-goings at the Omole residence of the pop group, P-Square, real names, Peter and Paul Okoye, not many spared the boys, especially since they refused to comment on the allegations.

Chief among the allegations levelled against the artistes, was the illegal conversion of the boys’ quarters into a studio, for which they pulled down the dividing wall between the two rooms to achieve. The landlord had therefore requested that the twins vacate his property.

Last week was more revealing on this episode. In a final move to evict the Okoyes, Chief Nwangwa called for another press conference where he distributed a 5-page document chronicling the beginning and development of his interactions with the famous group.

The document didn’t say anything new other than that Ikeja Regional Development Agency had on last 29th June sealed up the building while the ‘boys broke it into with impunity’. He equally alleged that he had been beaten up by the ‘Okoye’s thugs led by one Wande’ when he went to the property to personally serve them a ‘mandatory quit notice’.

In a swift reaction, the twins, via their publicist, called for an urgent press brief the next day, Wednesday. And for the first time, they spoke through their manager and brother, Jude Okoye on the matter.

According to Jude, at their first interaction with Chief Nwangwa in 2006, the Chief had told him the house was for sale, for N45million, and that Zain, then called Celtel, was bidding for the building too. Jude, who said he’s been in the forefront of dealings with Nwangwa, said their initial payment of N5.6m was supposed to be part payment of the initial purchase.

Jude said there was a verbal agreement between them that if he was able to come up with the balance in two weeks, (when their N50m bank fixed deposit would be ready for withdrawal) the house would become theirs, otherwise the money paid would be converted to 3-years rent for the property.

A hand- written receipt was issued by the Chief for the N5.6m received, on the premise that a further payment which would translate into the Okoyes ownership of the house would still follow. The duo moved into the house and, Jude said, ‘after two weeks, I got my fixed deposit and called him to the house for his balance.

I asked him the name I should put in the N39.4m balance draft and he said, no that his house was for N45m.’ Can you imagine?’, Jude asked.

More than a month after, the angry brothers, rather than get stuck with a 3-year rent, decided to buy up the house all the same.

He went on, ‘After one month, I called him on the phone and he said the price for the house had gone up to N80m. We refused to buy it and decided to stay. It was obvious he wanted us trapped from the beginning’, Jude explained.

On the broken wall, the brothers explained that they had pulled it down ‘just as we came in because we thought we had agreed that the house belonged to us.’

The landlord, they claimed, had been to the studio several times without complain, until they fell out. Jude, who blamed himself for not having a written agreement on the house also claimed that the lady called Gift, whom Chief Nwangwa had publicised as their guarantor was an artiste he (Chief Nwangwa) brought to him (Jude) to produce and which he refused.

The lady, he said, was introduced to them as an interior decorator and artiste and she was the one who made their living room curtains.

‘Later, he brought his son who had just returned from America and asked me to produce for him, but I refused and reminded him that I work for only P-Square.

Then he told me about a show in Dubai and I told him our fee was $100, 000 per show and he said even Akon had not charged that much money. He got angry and took it personal and left.’

The last of disagreements the group had with Chief Nwangwa, Jude said, was based on Jude’s refusal to let Chief get involved with the P-Square brand. According to Jude, Nwangwa had asked to market P-Square’s works.

‘He said he (landlord) was coming over to take up the marketing of the album; that the man (P-square’s marketer) was not doing a good job.’ Jude had refused. Afterwards, Nwangwa is alleged to have demanded for a certain percentage as commission off P-square’s income since the residential studio had been used in recording songs released for commercial purposes.

Amidst several allegations raised by the boys, indicting Chief Nwangwa, Jude enthused that Nwangwa was never manhandled by P-square nor by his assistants. Instead, the chief, at various times, brought strangers to their house, requesting that the twins signed autographs.

The only time he was refused was when he came with journalists and a policeman and was refused access through the gates by Wande, Jude’s assistant. The boys have resolved to quit the building in four months’ time, when their Omole building, presently under construction, will be ready.

The Okoye brothers are said to be working on a 6-bedroom twin duplex, not very far away from their present abode.

The property, which they took press men to see, includes a swimming pool and a basement which will serve as studio exclusively for the P-Square brand. They said they intend to put back the studio wall and vacate their present residence before their rent expires in March, 2010.

G.Y.E PRESENTS DAVID EVANS-”AT THE MOMENT,I PLAY NINE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS”.

DE

Todays feature on G.Y.E is the musical prodigy, David Evans. David Evans plays 9 different musical instruments but it doesnt end there,He is one of the co-founders of Beautiful Music record label , He is a Record Producer,Studio Engineer and Artiste. He has worked with various musicians and produced numerous hits songs. We at GidiNoize were priviledged to have an interview with David Evans.

GidiNoize Interviews David Evans

1.WHO IS DAVID EVANS?

I’m a young musician born in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. I moved to the United Kingdom a few years ago to chase my dream as a Record Producer. Eeehhmmm….. This is Me!!!

2.CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND (EDUCATIONAL, FAMILY)?

I’m born to Igbo parents who live in Nigeria, I went through primary and secondary school in Nigeria, where I picked up practical and theoretical music skills which I believe have given me an edge in the today’s industry.

3.WE UNDERSTAND THAT U ARE A SINGER AND PRODUCER, HOW AND WHEN DID U DISCOVER THESE TALENTS?

I can safely say that I’m a record producer due to my massive discography, but singing is something I try out once in a while, thanks to recent advancements in media technology. At the moment, I play nine musical instruments. These skills I gathered over the years, while playing in an Orchestra in Nigeria, and later becoming a session musician in the UK, which involves playing for numerous bands. I have always been a musically inclined person, and my family and friends have always pushed me in this direction since they discovered this, therefore, I believe I owe them for it all.

4.BEING A YOUNG ARTISTE COMES WITH A LOT OF CRITICISM AND DISAPPROVAL ESPECIALLY FROM PARENTS ,HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THAT?

In my case, it’s a very different case. People around me know that this is the only thing I can do well. And is probably the only field where I can be successful, so they encourage me in every manner possible. I come from a family with numerous musicians, so to be excelling in the music industry is something my parents are very proud of, so they refine every bit of my music, offer me advice, and show me much love and support. Infact, I consider my Mum and Dad to be my biggest supporters.

5.HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR STUDIES & MUSICAL CAREER TOGETHER?

I am a student of Pop Music Production in a University here in the UK, and everything I do helps me academically and vice versa, so you can rightfully assume that I do nothing else apart from staying on my academic Gingah.

6.WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE PRODUCED FOR VARIOUS OTHER ARTISTES, CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THAT?

Over the years, I have produced numerous artists from diverse works of life and parallel industries. This came as I spent years being part of a media production team called The Priority Club. With their help, I was able get Follow Me Go, which was my debut in UK stores. As that relationship recently came to an end, I co-founded a UK Record Label called “Beautiful Music”, which comprises of Beautiful Music Management and my very own Beautiful Music Recording Studio. At Beautiful Music, we have worked so hard in the past couple of months, and should be making our initial store release before the end of 2009.

7.OUTSIDE THE MUSIC SCENE WHO IS DAVID EVANS?

To be honest, I think the whole music gingah has kinda over-shadowed my private life. Its my full-time job, and I study it. So, I guess outside one music scene, you can still find me in another music scene. Its all I do.

8.ARE YOU SINGLE?LOL AHHHH!!!

Unfortunately, I’m not. LOL sorry mehn!!

9.APART FROM MUSIC DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

I have gradually developed an interest in Moving Image Development and Film Making. Hopefully, you should see something commercial pretty soon.

10.WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

I honest do not know. I’ll leave that to God Almighty to decide. But you can always follow my journey on twitter and see where I end up: http://twitter.com/kingdavidevans

11.THERE ARE A COUPLE OF ARTISTES AND PRODUCERS IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY, WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT?

My honest opinion is that it is a saturated market now. I work with a lot of UK acts now, but I still try to level my head to the Nigerian music scene. The only thing I believe makes me just a little bit different is that I have a habit of combining cultures which would have never met. It does have its negative effects, but hopefully, one day people will understand why I do it.

12.WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY IS LACKING AND CAN FILL THE VOID?

In my opinion, it’s not lacking anything!!! It’s a growing industry so it is expected to move from strength to strength, and I’m sure you can see this happening daily. Slow and steady wins the race. It will be a bad idea to rush it, and probably introduce something that the Nigerian audience might not like. The Nigerian industry is very beautiful as it is, there is a new artist everyday, and artists drop-out daily. It’s a moving train, and will surely get to its destination. There is no sure thing as teleporting in this work of life.

13.IS THERE AN ALBUM OR MIX TAPE IN THE WORKS AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT TO DROP?

My label actually has 5 Mix tapes and 1 Album all coming between now and January (Unfortunately, none are mine). Mixtapes you can always expect free online and at events, and Albums you can always expect in the regular Music Shops and Digital Stores. Some tracks from these are produced by me, and can be listened to at my MySpace page: http://myspace.com/davidevansmusic

14.ANY LAST WORDS FOR YOUR FANS?

I don’t even know if I have fans oh, but anyhow sha, just incase… all I have to say is “Beautiful Music” (In very deep voice)…ok…. Bye!!!

Their debut album titled – Mannequins , Mohicians and Misdemeanors will be out in January. We at GidiNoize were priviledged to have an interview with this young Chap.

GidiNoize Interviews Akitoye Balogun

1. WHO IS AKITOYE BALOGUN?

Well, I’m a typical naija boy with a twist, fashonista I’m a bad guy in the least lol.
I’m just a unique person with a love for music and an eye for fashion. Before I forget, also a heck of an engineer to be.

2. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND (EDUCATIONAL, FAMILY)?

Born in Lagos, lived in Austria for a bit. Primary school in Chrisland and Greenwood House, Lagos. Secondary school in ISL Lagos and currently studying Petroleum Engineering in Leeds University.
Only son of my parents, I have four very talented sisters and my parents Mr. and Mrs. Balogun.

3. WHEN DID YOU REALIZE MUSIC WAS YOUR CALLING?

Ermm, I’d say since when I was little. I always had an ear for the lyrics in rap music especially, and it kept mesmerizing me till I started doing it myself.

4. WHAT GENRE ARE YOU INTO AND WHY?

Well, we Soyinka’s afro are into soul, funk, hip-hop, African-sounding-music lol, pop, and basically anything that makes us tick.

5. WE AT GIDINOIZE COULDN’T HELP BUT NOTICE YOUR STAGE NAME, AJEBUTTER 22 AND YOU BAND NAME SOYINKA’S AFRO HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?

‘Some of these people like us the others are foes and we’ll keep growing like Soyinka’s afro’-This is where the name came from it’s just something I always say and taymi thought to use it fort he name of the group. As for Ajebutter 22, only God know where it came from I’ve always been an ajebutter anyway :).

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR STUDIES, MUSICAL CAREER AND RUN T.O.Y TOGETHER?

It really is a challenge sometimes! But when you are involved with things you’re passionate about, you can’t tell what will keep you going.

7. WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN PART IN SHOWS CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THEM?

TOY Inc has been involved in a few fashion shows, and it is never an easy job getting ready the preparations take forever! Plus all the nerves, but the ends result is wonderful so we thank God. Joy won’t feel so good if it wasn’t for pain.

8. WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST MOMENT OF YOUR MUSICAL CAREER?

It has to be the first time I heard Storybook girl on the radio. I remember I had to listen to it on the car radio and there was no light! I don’t remember experiencing any greater joy in my life. Ps: #lightupnigeria

9. OUTSIDE THE MUSIC/T.O.Y SCENE WHO IS AKITOYE BALOGUN?

Lol, Akitoye Balogun is also an active member of the Leeds Afro Caribbean Society!, an ardent arsenal fan!, and a student.

10. ARE YOU SINGLE?

No o, I’m plural hiss lool.

11. APART FROM MUSIC AND FASHION DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

The psychology and philosophy of the female specie. As well as food and football 😀

12. DO YOU INTEND GOING INTO MUSIC FULL TIME?

I love it! so why not? But it depends on the success rate! But I have a plan B, C, D and E!

13. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

Alive to start with, MAYBE engaged. Taking Temi’s kids to school lol. Telling kanye to bring me coffee! More seriously, I really do think TOY will be the best clothing line in Nigeria and Soyinka’s afro will be dominating the world!

14. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF RAPPERS IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY, WHAT CAN YOU BRING TO THE TABLE THAT OTHERS HAVEN’T?

Number 1 thing is risk, I can’t careless about pleasing the whole world, and our music has been often referred to as international, so it is something more modern for the Nigerian market.

15. GROWING UP, WHO WERE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

My favourite question! My very first music influence was Michael Jackson like every other kid in my time. (Yes, I can still moonwalk) Then there was heavy D, tupac, Mariah Carrey, remedy, plantashun boys. The artiste that inspired me to rap though was MODE 9, also terry tha rapman, fabolous e.t.c

16. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY IS LACKING AND CAN FILL THE VOID?

Patience, very few artistes have the patience to build up their work everyone just wants to go straight into making millions which isn’t really the way it should work.

17. DO YOU WRITE YOUR OWN RAP?

Ahh yes o! I even write for some people occassionally!

18. WHATS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR RAPS?

To be honest, a good percentage of the time it is coca cola! Ps: I’m not joking
also, just my surroundings the music I listen to. Or that girl…

19. IS THERE AN ALBUM OR MIX TAPE IN THE WORKS AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT TO DROP?

Ahan! e tun bere? For sure. The mix tape, ‘Mannequins, Mohicans and Misdemeanors’ is coming out January latest. And the album ‘Evolution of the fro’ is out some time in 2010 date has not been finalised!

Do not get into music unless you’re actually passionate about it.

FOOTBALLER, JOSEPH YOBO PROPOSES TO EX-MBGN, ADAEZE IGWE.

ADAEZE IGWE AND JOSEPH YOBO

ADAEZE IGWE AND JOSEPH YOBO

News just reached us a GidiNoize that the Everton Football player,Joseph Yobo recently proposed to Former Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria, Adaeze Igwe.

The 2 who happen to both be in the Limelight had been dating for a while now but had been denying it until April this year (2009) at Rita Dominic’s birthday where they finally admitted to it.

Adaeze Igwe who was initailly meant to go to University Of Abuja got admission into UCLA and decided to go there hence traveling preparations and all were being made.

Unknowing to Adaeze,Joseph had other plans for her.Just before her departure at the airport(YES AT THE AIRPORT),Joseph Yobo went down on one knee and proposed, the excited but shocked ex-queen allowed him slip the ring on her finger and agreed to marry him with tears running down her face(awwww!!).

Wedding Bells will soon be ringing so for those who know the couple, get your money ready for the ASO-EBI and what not!

Congratulations Joseph and Adaeze.
