G.Y.E PRESENTS MOTI CAKES-”I ALWAYS HAD A LOVE AFFAIR WITH THE FUNK AND EXCITEMENT OF PERFORMING AND RIPPING BEATS”.

Moti Cakes

So basically, Moti Cakes is one of the best rappers of our time and I’m not even playing, I mean how many young people have you heard got featured on tracks by renowned artistes well you just heard of one–>Moti Cakes.Having been surrounded by music since the tender age of 8, you can rightfully say that music is second nature to him.We at GidiNoize were privileged to have an interview with this talented young man, so sit back, relax and enjoy!

GidiNoize Interviews Moti Cakes.

1.WHO IS MOTI CAKES?

Moti Cakes is a devoted student to the art form of spitttin dope rhymes.
Surrounded by music since the tender age of 8, I would like to think of
myself as a sample of everything I love about rap music. I think I
approach the mic like a ballerina or bugs bunny, u kno? Just hopping on
the track and bouncing.

2.CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND(EDUCATIONAL,FAMILY)?

Growing up in lagos, I attended Greensprings school, this is were I
polished my skills lol, that was when I started performing at school
events. After high school I moved to Florida to finish my studies there
hooked up with guitarist Sam Kugz and I got into the undergrown miami
hip hop scene, performing at several parties and shows.

3.WHEN DID YOU REALIZE MUSIC WAS YOUR CALLING?

I can’t really pin point exactly when, but I would say, I always had a
love affair with the funk and excitement of performing and ripping
beats, I always got overwhelmed everytime I heaRd a dope rhyme like”did u
hear what buddy said?”.

4.WHAT GENRE ARE YOU INTO AND WHY?

Oh wow, I am soo hip hop baby,my first obsession was with east coast
hard core rap thanks to influences from biggie, jay and nas, then I
later re fell in love with the old school true school sounds of a tribe
called quest and de la soul.

6.BEING A YOUNG ARTISTE COMES WITH A LOT OF CRITICISM AND DISAPPROVAL
ESPECIALLY FROM PARENTS ,HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THAT?

Actually, I’ve never really had that problem, my parents have always
been aware of my love for music and agenda, and they have been really
supportive of my dreams, and goals.

8.WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST MOMENT OF YOUR MUSICAL CAREER?

Well, I wouldn’t say I’ve had a greatest moment yet, am still fresh out
the oven, but in December of 09′ I was in Port Harcourt in a studio
working on a song and to cut the long story short, Timaya heard me spit
on a track and he featured me on one his songs for his Dem Mama Soljas
album that same day, we then exchanged contacts and we met up in Lagos
4 days later to work on another song for his album, so yeah that was
pretty cool.

9.OUTSIDE THE MUSIC SCENE WHO IS MOTI CAKES?

Outside music, am really all about SB chillin, rollin up and vibin, Am
all about my manchester united, am all about fly kicks(I love shoes), am
still all about good music all day. I don’t like flying, so going back
to gidi in christmas is always a scary movie, but I am still one of the
flyest indeed lol

10.ARE YOU SINGLE?LOL

I never had a twin lol

11.APART FROM MUSIC DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

Music has always been my main thing, but on the side I like to collect
sneakers, I admire the story each one tells lol. I used to play
football, now just on xbox, but I support my old trafford man u boys to
the casket.

12.DO YOU INTEND ON GOING INTO MUSIC FULL TIME?

Yes I intend to make my mark in the industry.

13.WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

In 10 years I would hope to have maybe 3 classic albums under my belt
and get on my diddy and russel hustle and start plotting a take over of
the naija music industry lol.

14.THERE ARE A COUPLE OF YOUNG ARTISTES IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC
INDUSTRY,WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT?

Good question, out of everybody that’s out right now, I feel am one of
the few who actually acknowledge that they are students of the genre, u
feel me? I feel like my style and swag represents a lot of the good old
vibe hip hop once had, people tell me one of my greater advantages is
that I am really versatile and my delivery is very unique, but I just
thing ikno how to rock a beat well, its the simple things that count.

15. GROWING UP,WHO WERE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

R.I.P, B.I.G, I loved the big poppa flow it was so ahead of his time, I
listen to a lot of 90′s hip hop, I try to get inspiration right from the
source so as to not be too influenced with the music of more present
times if u dig what I am saying?
Am all about my Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Biggie, Early Nas n Jay,
Method Man and Lauren Hill.

16. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY IS LACKING AND CAN
FILL THE VOID?

In defense of the Naija music industry, in the last couple of years it
has come a long way from what it used to be, so mad props to all the big
names in the industry right now that made that happen, with that said,
the rap industry is still looking for that act who’s gonna take the
music to the next level, a lot of artist out now are kind of corny,
because they tend to try and copy other peoples styles rather than
present something original.

18. WHATS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR SONGS?

I tend to let the instrumental influence the direction I take on a
track, am not a gangsta rapper, I tend to focus on wordplay, metaphors
and floetry, I still drop knowledge too lol.

19. IS THERE AN ALBUM OR MIXTAPE IN THE WORKS AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT
TO DROP?

Yes, Yes definitely, the “PepeSprayActivites” EP is in effect, coming
out March 2010, its an online release, it will be availiable for
download, about 8 tracks deep, every track sounds like a hit to me lol.
The idea was just to introduce my self to the people as something else,
am trying to feel the void and be that other vibe we need, D’banj is
hot, M.I is hot, but giv it a listen its somthing else, I dey tell u.

20. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER UPCOMING ARTISTES?

Bros, don’t be afraid to be different, if not ur always gonna be under
someone elses shadow, swagga jacking is not coool.

21.ANY LAST WORDS FOR YOUR FANS?

You are very much appreciated, and I love you too, and for more info
about the Something Else EP, holla at me on facebook/twitter: Moti Cakes

G.Y.E PRESENTS TAMARAKORO-”I STARTED WRITING IN JSS2 & EVER SINCE THEN IT’S BEEN A JOURNEY OF A MILLION MILES THAT BEGAN WITH ONE STROKE OF A PEN”.

TamaraKoro Ogedegbe

Born in Nigeria, TamaraKoro (pronounced Tah-mah-rah-kor and meaning Power of God) practices the art of lyricism accompanied by a stylistically diverse flow that separates him from the rest of the pack.Born Tamarakoro Samuel Tabunor Ogedegbe, though based in the US, TamaraKoro is never ashamed to let his African roots shine in the message behind his songs or in his ‘breath of fresh air’ vocals. We at GidiNoize were proviledged to have a word with this talented young man.

GidiNoize Interviews TamaraKoro

1.WHO IS TAM?

Tam is Tamarakoro Ogedegbe, Nigerian born and Nigerian raised (I’m not half cast).
I grew up in Lagos but I am originally from Warri, Delta State and I am Ijaw ethnically.
My name means Power of God and was graciously bestowed upon me by my grandfather.

2. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND (EDUCATIONAL, FAMILY)?

I grew up in a hardworking home and my parents are still married, I went to R.I.S
(Redeemer’s International School) for primary education and Whitesands/Grange for

secondary schooling. I am currently a Marketing Major at Virginia Tech in the US.

3. WHEN DID YOU REALIZE MUSIC WAS YOUR CALLING?

There was no “moment” or epiphany it was just the music that I grew up listening to
and developed a sincere but severe passion for. I started writing in Jss2 (I believe) and ever

since then it’s been a journey of a million miles that began with one stroke of a pen.

4. WHAT GENRE ARE YOU INTO AND WHY?

Rap. For the simple fact that I love to use and manipulate words when expressing
myself and rapping incorporates rhythm which we as Africans are known to have a

‘thing’ for. I listened to artists in the genre that made me want to ‘spit’
better than they were at that point in time with reason and purpose adding

more value.

5. HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR STUDIES & MUSICAL CAREER TOGETHER?

I have to see myself as a juggler, this puts me in the frame of mind whereby I have
to tackle more than 1 thing and keep the rhythm flowing without dropping the ball.

The sadness and the economical demolition of various social infrastructures and
corporations lets me know that if we are going to have anything in this world we
have to go out and get it and stop waiting to be spoon fed, so that thought alone
helps recharge my focus when its dwindling.

6. BEING A YOUNG ARTISTE COMES WITH A LOT OF CRITICISM AND DISAPPROVAL ESPECIALLY FROM PARENTS, HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THAT?

I thank God for giving me supporting and understanding parents. They have allowed
me to blossom and to grow without any hindrance or condemnation but they never fail

to remind me of priorities and things that matter the most in this life. So in this case I’m

coping real well because they hardly give me any problems regarding my music.

7. WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE PERFORMED AT A COUPLE OF SHOWS CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THEM?

I did a performance in Atlanta, GA at a fashion show called Runway Madness. It was a showcase of
African talent in the entertainment and fashion industry. The second show I did was at the Vinyl House

in Virginia for Valentine’s eve. Both shows were experiences I enjoyed, I just went out there and

showed the world where I stand as an artist and the people received me very well and gave me good

feedback. As an artist who is just starting up and building buzz this to me cannot be more key because

it is a morale booster to know that people outside your immediate network of friends can appreciate what

you are doing.

8. WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST MOMENT OF YOUR MUSICAL CAREER?

I cannot say there is a greatest because every time I get a new idea for a song, beat or style of lyricism
I feel I’m going higher and higher, so therefore I keep prospecting great things so there are a lot of moments.

9. OUTSIDE THE MUSIC SCENE WHO IS TAM?

Tam is a student of life and a lover of God (Father, Son, Holy Ghost) and life in general. I try to know a little bit about everything around me and I analyse all
things I perceive. I try to strike a balance between the spiritual and physical, work and leisure, and all things I am

involved in at any given point in time. I love to party and hang out with friends in order to have a good time. Plus I love the
girls, ladies and women in and that are about to be in my life!!!!

10. ARE YOU SINGLE? LOL

For now I am

11.APART FROM MUSIC DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

Planet Earth

12.DO YOU INTEND ON GOING INTO MUSIC FULL TIME?

Yes without an iota of a doubt

13. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

I see myself on the global stage adding value to people’s lives in a positive way, producing quality music
that would make a formidable impact on my generation and above all enlighten the masses.

14. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF YOUNG ARTISTES IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY, WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT?

I possess a global appeal and the goals I have to accomplish are bigger than me. I see my music as
a forum of expression whereby I can share with people who I am, what I think of the world around me and

how each of us have business on this planet to handle. I produce beats, rap my lyrics and mix my songs.
I believe I stand for the new age artist who is independent and versatile with depth of knowledge and skill,
focused on a vision and is constantly getting bigger and better.

15. GROWING UP, WHO WERE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Rakim, Nas, Biggie, 2pac just to name the key ones.

16. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY IS LACKING AND CAN FILL THE VOID?

The Nigerian Music Industry lacks solid infrastructure that can support artists and promote
creativity with wider streams of revenue. We need publishing companies that would make sure

artists get their monies and necessary royalties, copyright offices that would protect the intellectual works of artists.

We need to develop our internet efficiency because this is where the future of music in this world lies, so I believe we

need to beef up our e-capacity in that respect. And above all, a leader who can set a standard with/for the music industry
and also lead the way into the future.

17. DO YOU WRITE YOUR OWN RAPS/SONGS?

Yes I do

18. WHATS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR SONGS?

Entertainment and Enlightenment

19. IS THERE AN ALBUM OR MIXTAPE IN THE WORKS AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT TO DROP?

I am currently working on a mix tape series called Chop Mic Specials and the first is Tear Rubber, it should be
dropping before summer.

20. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER UPCOMING ARTISTES?

Patience, purpose and practice.

21. ANY LAST WORDS FOR YOUR FANS?

I am here today, will be here tomorrow and a very long time after that (God willing) so keep your eyes and
ears on me.

GIDINOIZE INTERVIEWS WALE P-”AINT NO PARTY LIKE A WP PARTY’

WALE P

Wale P is not your average young man,he’s a man with a vision and he’s definately a force to reckon with.An accountant by profession in one of the leading accounting firms in England,Wale is also the CEO/FOUNDER of W.P Entertainment Company which specialises in events and music,W.P Entertainment is an ever growing company and is currently working on branching out into T.V,like I said before Wale P is a man with a vision and we at GidiNoize were privileged to interview the man himself.

GidiNoize interviews Wale P.

WHO IS WALE P?
Wale P is I, I am Wale P,lol only joking. Well I just see myself as a young black man who is tryna be all he can be without limits. Right now, I work/consult for a FTSE 100 company within the business development team but i guess the main reason why I am here is because I got myself well known for throwing ‘Hot Parties, like i say ” Aint no Party Like a WP Party ” lol..and most importantly I am now also in the early stages of my Record Label, WP Music.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND(EDUCATIONAL,FAMILY)?
2 parents, 3 sisters and a niece, who i love dearly. I was educated from the age of 11, in a Grammer school in Northampton, England and then went on to study Accountancy at University in Birmingham.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD A KNACK FOR BUSINESS?

Haha, well I think it’s always been in me.Right since I was in school, I used to make mixtapes for my school mates and sell them..haha.. and then cd’s came out and I did that too, I provided anything they wanted; pop, rock, anything ..lol as long as it paid, I also went into the clothing business briefly after leaving uni, It didn’t work out to well so I gave up the idea. However that is something i will Revisit when the time is right.

WE AT GIDINOIZE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU RUN W.P ENTERTAINMENT CAN YOU GIVE US A BRIEF SUMMARY OF WHAT THE ENTERPRISE IS ABOUT?
WP ENTERTAINMENT!!! it’s exactly what it says. Our business is purely in Entertainment like I mentioned earlier, right now that’s what WP Parties and WP Music is all about, but later on in future we will branch into other areas, especially TV.

WHATS THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME W.P?

The name WP, Well as u know my name is Wale, the first party series I had was called Playerz Ball, so ppl called me Wale playerz back then, I guess i grew up, dropped the players and just became Wale P. hence WP Entertainment.

WHAT INSPIRED W.P AS A WHOLE?
The whole party idea came about honestly coz I just wanted to make money.Working for someone or following orders is something I have a big problem with which is a ‘bad thing’ but I just wanted to be financially independent and earn my own income. I had seen ppl around me doing it, and I just thought ”I could do this mayne” thats what I said to myself. I guess the reason I stood out was because I did it alone whilst others formed crews. My first ever party I had 8 ppl there at 12.00 and the sound wasnt working, my heart was sinking..lol thanks to God and my hardwork, I had 300 merry people pouring out at 3am…Phew.. I guess I did a good job promoting it after all, black ppl are just always late.. lol. Anyways after that I realised I was good at it and so I evolved. Music has always been a dream, I used to MC back in my school days, maybe one day i’ll rap but haha, lets not think about that right now.

WHAT KEEPS WALE P GOING/WHAT DRIVES/MOTIVATES YOU?H;T
My Motivation funny enough is not the money. I’m simply motivated by my lust of success. Sometimes i think my passion and hunger gets the better of me, but like I said earlier. I’m just tryna be all I can be without limits and as far as this entertainment & music thing is concerned, I dont see my race nor surroundings or the Oceans overseas as a limit. My aim is to take over the world. haha (Entertainment wise anyway). So I have a Very Very Long Road ahead of me. Thats my motivation!

WE UNDERSTAND THAT W.P ENTERTAINMENT IS PRETTY BRANCHED OUT,CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE VARIOUS BRANCHES UNDER W.P?

I’ll give as short an answer as possible. The company is fully known as WP Media & Entertainment. Under that umbrella there are many different things. Right now we do Parties, and the record label is formed (WP MUSIC ). My First Artist is the Incredible .. DL. check him out on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/wpmusiconline.We are constantly working on new projects and ideas, so all i can say is stay tuned.!!

WE UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE 2 ARTISTES UNDER W.P MUSIC AT THE MOMENT ,CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THEM?

As explained, DL is a rapper, and i am also working with Sheena, who is ‘Incredibly Talented, her voice is Exceptional, nothing more, nothing less.’, Shes in her final year of uni now, so her project wont begin until next year, but she has recorded a couple of songs, with DL which are simply fantastic.

YOU HAVE A LOT GOING ON,HOW DO YOU MANAGE ALL THESE BUSINESS AND STILL HAVE A SOCIAL LIFE?

Well the challenge is how do I stay in the corporate world, manage my business and still have a social life. Honest the truth is I dont have much of one. I am a workaholic, and thats something i am trying to work on at the moment because if I am working like this at this age, then wHat will happen later ? So i am trying to relax and socialise a bit more but its all Good.

CAN YOU TELL US SOME ENTREPRENEURS YOU LOOK UP TO AND WHY? That question is very simple to me. Who i look up to? Sean Combs. I dont know him personally and to be honest he might be a jackass in person, lol, I dont know, but that dude handles his business and i like that. The industry is similar so i guess thats why i can relate more.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST MOMENT SO FAR AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?
The greatest moment is just still being here. Thats a blessing. Many have started and given up, I almost did the same during some trying times but i came through, Thank God, so upwards and onwards.

OUTSIDE THE BUSINESS SCENE WHO IS WALE P? OTHER THAN BUSINESS,WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

Lol … I am all about my Business. I wake up thinking about my Business, I Sleep thinking about my Business. Its really bad. I guess I need to get a life..lol

WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR W.P AND W.P MUSIC?

My Vision for WP right now is emplanting WP Music, it needs to be that independent record label that came from an apartment in the docklands to become something the ‘World’ reckons with.Thats a mighty dream to have but as long as i am breathing I can only keep trying. I think my next hobby will be the TV Thing, WP MEDIA. I know with the right equipment i can create fantastic TV Shows. so look out …WP MEDIA coming soon!!

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR SELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?
In the next 10 years, by Gods Grace. I wanna be LIVING IT !! not Dreaming it!

WHATS NEXT FOR W.P AND W.P MUSIC?
Whats next is to keep the Hustle on, On all fronts. The Music Business is hard, we’re not getting the support from the DJ’s or Promoters that I imagined I would, but we working on it. Its gonna come and our dreams will materialize, that I am sure about !

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UPCOMING YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS?
Well you are one person who fits that category. I am really impressed by what you have put together with GidiNoize and like I told you earlier today, I would be honoured to be the one to interview you for GidiNoize when you are ready. Just keep doin your thing mayne, I don’t feel i am justified to or have ‘made it’ so much to be giving advice but like i say to u always…Just do your thang ! Simples !

ANY LAST WORDS FOR YOUR FANS?

FANS REALLY? WP has fans ? …LOL please point them out to me.. I really didnt know I had any…haha, na but seriously we would’nt be here without the support of many of the people in the London Scene. Any Success of WP, is not mine. Its theirs !. Thanks for letting us entertain you.!!, if u don’t know me then do add me on facebook. lets be friends… http://www.facebook.com/walep …SHOUT TO MY LONDON PPL !!!! We doin this for LONDON MAYNE !!!………PEACE !!

GIDINOIZE INTERVIEWS NSE IKPE ETIM-NOLLYWOOD’S LATEST MARVEL.

NSE IKPE ETIM

Nse Ikpe-Etim is the biggest thing in Nollywood right now.She has been in the entertainment industry since age 18 when she anchored a show on NTA.Her first movie role was in Venom of justice 2 after which she has acted in various movies including the Nollywood BIG hit movies;Reloaded and Guilty Pleasures where she acted as Ramsey Nouah’s wife.I must say this woman is an exceptional actress and one of the bests in Nigeria. We at GidiNoize were privileged to have an interview with the star herself, Nse Ikpe-Etim.

Guilty Pleasures Trailer

GidiNoize Interviews Nse Ikpe-Etim.

1. WHO IS NSE IKPE ETIM?

Nse Ikpe-Etim is a typical Libran. Courteous, artistic, gracious, forgetful, and prone to procrastination most of all a people pleaser. That about sums up the good, the bad but there is no ugly.

2. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND (EDUCATIONAL/FAMILY)?

I have a degree (BA) in Theatre Arts from the University of Calabar and still looking to add more qualifications…(lol). I am from a family of six children. I am the first and we are close knit. Our motto is love.

3. GROWING UP, WHO WERE YOUR INFLUENCES?

My mother influenced greatly. She’s the strongest woman I know, and if I could be just a quarter of the woman she is, I’ll be fine.

4. WHEN AND HOW DID YOU REALIZE ACTING WAS YOUR CALLING?

As a late starter, I had the interest from 18. I must say that although I acted through University (Stage) and after that a bit of screen, I had the strongest conviction after Reloaded

5. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH THE CAMERA?

My first encounter with the camera was in the 90’s when I used to anchor a breakfast television show as a student on NTA Calabar, but for film, it was with Venom of Justice 2.

NSE IKPE-ETIM IN GUILTY PLEASURES

6. WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ACTED IN ‘GUILTY PLEASURES’ AND ‘RELOADED’.CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR ROLES IN BOTH?

Both roles were completely different but similar because both women (Liz in “Guilty Pleasures “and “Omoze” in Reloaded) craved for their husband’s attention but went about it in completely different ways.

7. IN GUILTY PLEASURES THERE WERE A COUPLE OF STEAMY MOMENTS.HOW DID YOU COPE WITH THEM?

Like a professional, of course there were awkward moments, that’s natural but I was blessed to be working with two equally professional and extremely talented actors.

8. WHO WAS A BETTER KISSER MAJID MICHAEL OR RAMSEY NOUAH? LOL

You are talking about two happily married men, I personally believe that discussing their kissing abilities would be disrespectful to them and their spouses.

9. IN BOTH ‘GUILTY PLEASURES’ AND ‘RELOADED’ RAMSEY NOUAH WAS YOUR HUSBAND, WAS THIS A COINCIDENCE OR YOU GOT TO PICK?

It was purely coincidental

10. IN THE NIGERIAN MOVIE INDUSTRY WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES?

There are so many talented actors and actresses. I always find it hard to pick so I’d say most of them.

11. WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST MOMENT OF YOUR ACTING CAREER SO FAR?

I am still relatively new to this. I think it’s still on the way. You will be the first to know.

NSE IKPE-ETIM IN RELOADED

12. HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING A CELEBRITY?

Honestly, I feel the same way I used to feel when I was relatively unknown. It has not gotten to the point where I know. Like I said it’s a whole new thing.

13. HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THE FANS?

This might sound cliché, but my fans make me and I love them.

14. WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT ACTING AND BEING A CELEBRITY?
Acting for me is a whole new experience each time because it gives you a chance to step into a new character and become a whole new individual…it completely allows me to express myself, it’s the best feeling in the world as for being a celebrity….I still don’t know.

15. .IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DO NOT LIKE ABOUT ACTING? IF SO WHAT IS IT?

The only thing I do not like about acting is the publicity that comes with it. I’ve always been a private person, with few friends but acting takes that away, it just leaves you out there to the public.

16. .IS THERE ANYTHING YOU FEEL IS MISSING IN YOUR LIFE AT THE MOMENT?

Hmmmmmm….a mini me….. (Lol)

Nse Ikpe Etim

17. WHATS NEXT FOR NSE EKPE ETIM?

Honestly, I am taking each day as it comes…one step at a time

18. OUTSIDE THE MOVIE SCENE WHO IS NSE EKPE ETIM?

A friend…a clown…a sister….I am just plain Nse who enjoys the laughs…

19. HOW DO YOU KEEP IN SHAPE?

I’m not even going to lie and say I work out, diet and stuff because I don’t. I eat a whole lot; the only thing is I try to eat very small proportions every time. I eat and drink a lot of water.

20. APART FROM ACTING DO YOU HAVE OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

Yes! Cooking…I totally love cooking.

21. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF ACTRESSES IN THE NIGERIAN MOVIE INDUSTRY, WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT FROM THE REST?

Do I?? I don’t think so…….

22. WHAT DO YOU FEEL THE NIGERIAN MOVIE INDUSTRY IS LACKING AT THE MOMENT AND CAN YOU FEEL THE VOID?

The Nigerian Movie Industry is a peculiar one. There is no blue print on how and what should be done. The truth is we got here by virtue of our tenacity…so with a little more, we will conquer our fears. Piracy being one…..

23. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

Still cooking………

24. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UPCOMING ACTRESSES?

The race is not to the swift……Ecclesiastes. 9:11

EXCLUSIVE:GIDINOIZE INTERVIEWS MAYE HUNTA-THE MAN BEHIND THE SONG ‘EKAETTE’.

MAYE HUNTA

For those of you who do not know,Maye Hunta is the artiste who sang that new song EKAETTE that everyone’s been shouting about, well in this interview Maye revealed to us at GidiNoize who really gave EKAETTE belle…lol…It was a privilege having an interview with the man himself, just before reading we felt we should share the lovely EKAETTE video with you.

Enjoy.

1.HOW DID YOU REALISE MUSIC WAS YOUR CALLING?
Music has always being a part of my life since when I was a kid but that overwhelming sense of taking it seriously hit me in 1998. I just found myself writing poems and with it came a desire to add on melodies. I knew I was a creative person with talents but wasn’t sure what part of my talents to explore at first. The more I tried to discover myself, the deeper I got into the relationship with my new found love. As time went by, it became clearer to me that my calling in life is to be an all round entertainer.

2.WHAT GENRE ARE YOU INTO AND WHY?
This is one question that I hate to answer cos It’s difficult for me to say what particular genre of music I do. I like to say, with time hopefully I’ll be able to tell. Presently my sound is a fusion of different genres that come to me easily such as RnB, Hip Hop, Reggae, Highlife and much more. Perhaps in the nearest future it might form into a  brand new sound

3.WHATS THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME MAYE HUNTA?
Maye Hunta comes from my real names Olumayowa Adekunle Odejimi. Maye is from Mayowa and it’s a nick name given to me by friends whilst I was studying in Osu(now Olabisi Onabanjo University). I thought it was quite different and African sounding with the accent so I decided to stick to it. Hunta is from my surname Odejimi, means the crowned Hunter so I decided to keep the Hunter but spelt differently with the A, hence Hunta.

4.WE AT GIDINOIZE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE BASED IN S.A,IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS?
I moved to South Africa in 2002 to study and pursue my dreams of becoming a successful recording artiste. I decided to stay back after I finished my studies at the University of Pretoria. I have  recently moved back to Nigeria to make my presence felt in the music industry.

5.YOUR NEW SONG, EKAETTE IS MAKING WAVES IN NIGERIA AND BEYOND,WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE SONG?
The idea of the song Ekaette was born out of a desire to do something different, that my people in Nigeria and the rest of Africa can relate to. You hear such stories from time to time where I come from so I decided to make a song out of a real life scenario. Everything that I sing about is reality driven.

6.TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE EKAETE VIDEO,WHERE WAS THE VIDEO SHOT,WHO WAS THE PRODUCER….ETC?
The video of Ekaette was shot in South Africa and it was produced by Alisha Ludick for Lulu’s love Production Company. It was a 22hour shoot and the location was a residence in a Johannesburg Surburb.

7.THE VIDEO WAS ON POINT AND WE AT GIDINOIZE ARE SURE IT COST A HANDFUL, CAN YOU TELL US LIKE HOW MUCH IT COST?
Oh Yeah it cost us a lot of money to shoot, you know what the yorubas say ”Obe to dun Owo lopa.”Stew wey sweet na money kill am”lol Lets just say it was a big budget video and I thank God for making it worth all the investment.

8.WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE NAME ‘EKAETTE’? LOL
The name Ekaette was chosen cos it’s a general belief that women from Calabar are very good cooks and are said to cater to their spouses very well, you know what they say “The way to a mans heart is through his stomach“. If you listen very carefully to the song you’ll notice that we laid more emphasis on the fact that Ekaette is a good cook. The name Ekaette is a popular name from that region and it just worked better for the song in terms of the storyline and melody. It could have been Nneka, Rotimi or even Aisha, it really doesn’t matter. I’d like to make it very clear that the choice of the name Ekaette was not meant to derogate or discriminate in any way. Basically, i hope we communicated the main message of the song and not pay too much attention on Ekaette. The question everyone should be asking is’should i leave my spouse in the care of a cook, help or steward’?

9.HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN THAT SITUATION BEFORE?LOL
loooool, what do you think???? Na it’s all based on my imagination and stories that I’ve heard but it is a true story though, it’s happened in the past and it’s still happening as we speak.

10.WE UNDERSTAND THAT BEFORE EKAETTE YOU HAD RELEASED A COUPLE OF OTHER SONGS,CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THEM?
This is my 2nd album. My 1st album was called “The Introduction” and we released 3 videos from that album. The video of the 2nd single ”I-V” from the album was nominated in 3 categories including the video of the year at the 2007 Channel O Music video Awards. The full album never made it into the market though cos we encountered some problems along the way.

11.WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST MOMENT OF YOUR MUSICAL CAREER SO FAR?

Every time I get a fan out there appreciating my music its always a great moment for me and also when I got the letter that my music video had being nominated 3 times at the Channel O music video awards. It made me feel good with myself that I was appreciated on that level.

12.OUTSIDE THE MUSIC SCENE WHO IS MAYE HUNTA?
Maye Hunta is also an actor and an aspiring Record Executive

13.ARE YOU SINGLE?LOL
lol. Yeah but in a relationship and I’m happy

14.WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A WOMAN?

That’s for me to know and for her to find out

15.APART FROM MUSIC DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?
Like I said I’m an all round entertainer and beyond that I’m also very business oriented. In the past I’ve sold ties, jewelry, dogs etc. That tells you that I can get my hustle on. I am very interested in the business side of the entertainment industry but that side of me will unfold when I’ve built the Maye Hunta brand to a desired level.

16.WHATS NEXT FOR MAYE HUNTA?
Album release then tours around Nigeria, Africa and beyond

17.IS THERE AN ALBUM IN THE WORKS?
Yeaaaaah, the album is ready.the title is “Mayefestation” The bulk of the album was produced by my friend and partner in crime Shizzi, it features other wonderful artistes like Sound Sultan, I.D Cabassa, Igho, Vector and many more

18.THERE ARE A BUNCH OF NIGERIAN ARTISTES,WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT?
My story telling ability, style and my quest for originality. This makes me willing to experiment and thereby standing out from the pack

19.WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY IS LACKING AND CAN FILL THE VOID?
The industry presently lacks a proper structure that can allow for proper distribution and record keeping in terms of sales. Thank God that things are looking good now and the stake holders have started working on bringing about change by fighting piracy. Rome wasn’t built in a day, Slowly but surely we’ll get there.

20.WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER UPCOMING ARTISTES?
Dedicate time to perfecting your art and be original, do music for the right reasons, understand your strengths and use it to the fullest such that it can make up for your weaknesses and follow your heart, most importantly pray hard to God almighty the giver of the talent.

21.ANY LAST WORDS FOR YOUR FANS?
I want to say a big Thank you to all the Fans for being there through thick and thin. There wouldn’t be a Maye Hunta without you guys. Also a big shout out to all the Djs, radio stations, Tv Stations and media Houses, thanks for the steady support. One love!

G.Y.E PRESENTS SYLVESTER KAY-ADADE(MR.BUTTONS)-”THAT GOT ME A CONTRACT FOR BEIJING OLYMPICS”

Sylvester Kay-Adade

GidiNoize Interviews Sylvester II O. Kay-Adade

1. WHO IS MR. BUTTONS?
He
is a shrewd, dedicated, entrepreneurial, hard-working and positive Businessman.
He
runs Pearl Creations, a Company whose primary product is Button-Badges, hence the name lol.

2. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND (EDUCATIONAL, FAMILY)?
I was born May 29th, 1987 to Mr. Sylvester I and Mrs. Fehintola Adade in Lagos, Nigeria. My dad was of mixed heritage and my mum is Yoruba.
I have four (4) siblings- Ronke, Anthonia, Rita and Veronica.

My educational life was quite simple till it got a little complicated. I wanted to become a Medical Doctor then Chemical Engineer then Medical Doctor again. My primary school education was at St. Mary’s Private School, Agele, Lagos. Then I got into Federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos. A lot of people are shocked when I mention my High School. I apparently behave nothing like the stereotypical “IJ” guy.

Next, I attended Covenant University for a year studying Computer Science/Software Engineering. I was offered admission into the Medical School at Houdegbe North American University, Republique du Benin (HNAUB). I accepted itafter my first year at Covenant University. It was there I learnt to speak French, but it’s really rusty now. I spent two (2) years there before I transferred to Canada to continue.

I came to Canada in 2006 and attended Southern Ontario College for about nine (9) months. I got admission into the University of Toronto, University of Ottawa and McMaster University. My dad’s best friend attended McMaster University and talked so much about it, so I decided to go there…plus it has a renowned Medical School. I’m presently in my third (3rd) year of Health Studies.

3. WHEN AND HOW DID YOU REALIZE MAKING BUTTONS WAS YOUR THING?

I won’t say making buttons is my thing. It’s a hobby that became a business, but also a stepping stone to achieving the bigger dreams I have.
While I was in HNAUB, I had an eccentric roommate, Som, who always had all these interesting business ideas. We got very close and he shared his idea about making button-badges for Nigeria’s 45th Independence Day Celebrations. I put in some suggestions on the design, but unfortunately, we couldn’t actualize it due to several setbacks.

Some time late 2007, I remembered the buttons idea. Since I was now in Canada, I figured I could give it a shot since I had access to a lot of the resources we needed back then.
I did my homework- researched on buttons designing, the materials needed, the machinery, company registration etc.
When I was all set, I called Som, reminded him, told him my new ideas and assured him we could actually pull it off now. I called him a couple of times to get the ball rolling in Nigeria, but he had lost interest in the whole idea so I went along and did it on my own

4. DO YOU DESIGN THE BUTTONS YOURSELF?
Initially, I didn’t, I got a guy, Mike who was the local button maker in my University to do a couple of Nigerian Flag buttons so I could post pictures on the group I created on facebook and show some friends & Nigerian colleagues. Apparently, they all saw it and thought it would have been expensive, but after hearing it was just $2.00CAD, the buttons were all gone. Then I had him make some more and for other West African Countries.

Eventually, Mike stopped making buttons. He said it wasn’t a profitable venture. That prompted me to start learning how to make the buttons. Mine were weird looking so I looked for someone else while I sharpened my skills. Which is when I met Alice; she’s British and also runs her own Company. She supplied all my buttons. It was initially just business, but we got friendly and now we’re Business Partners. She gave me tutorials, advice and tips over time. I didn’t start making mine until late 2008.

5. WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGNS?
Well, there are two (2) types of Buttons: National and All-Me Buttons, and they are very different.

The concept behind the National Buttons is from the initial idea Som had; and I broadened the idea to accommodate other countries.
Being in a multicultural Country like Canada makes you realize how much people like to identify with their ethnicities and cultures, and what better way to do that than with your country’s flag? The National Buttons are buttons bearing the national flags of different countries. This gives its nationals the opportunity to be ambassadors proudly representing and celebrating their countries wherever they are on a daily basis or as frequently as they wish!

The All-Me Buttons idea came after a friend, Petra ordered some specific designs and I had to declined. Later, I realized that people like to have personal statements, names, nicknames, favourite cartoon characters, popular sayings, photos etc on buttons as well. I looked into it and came up with the name. I made Petra’s order after I began with All-Me Buttons. So, as the name implies, it has “you” all over it. They are custom-made and created to your own taste and specifications (fonts, colors, designs and size). They are more tasking to do and time consuming so I decided to charge an extra 50 cents for them. This makes the All-Me Buttons $2.50CAD/pin and the National Buttons $2.00CAD.

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR STUDIES & YOUR BUSINESS TOGETHER?
When you start making your own money, there’s this rush and drive you get from it especially when business is booming. I was getting orders from within Hamilton, the US, Mexico, England, Morocco etc. It was crazy, but exciting. I started skipping classes and losing sleep in order to meet the demands and my customary ten (10) days deadline.
My grades began to suffer of course, so I decided to have a work & study time frame.

From 8am to 8pm, I would take orders, attend my classes and do my assignments in the Library. After 8pm, take a nap and then study overnight (which is when I assimilate best).
Fridays and Saturdays, I would design and make the buttons (which takes hours). In times of rigorous tests and exams, I type up all the orders with the specifications (which also takes hours) and send them via email to Alice. On Sundays, after Church services, I go  back home to relax. At night, I watch my favourite TV series, movies and basically just chill.

When I have large orders, I contact another business partner, Levi. He’s Canadian and also runs his own company. He has a bigger press and more workers than I do. I’ve learnt to separate my education from business very effectively now. None overlaps the other and both are doing very well. About two (2) months ago, I got a BlackBerry smart phone which streams my emails and facebook messages to my phone. Now, life and business a lot easier for me.

7. BEING A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR COMES WITH A LOT OF CRITICISM AND DISAPPROVAL ESPECIALLY FROM PARENTS, HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THAT?
When I started, I didn’t tell my parents because I didn’t know how they would react. I’m that quiet and content child that doesn’t ask for anything except I need it so when I do ask, they never hesitate. My pocket money was sufficient such that I didn’t need a dramatic increase to start that would raise any questions. I had also been saving about $100 every month since the conception of making my variety of buttons.

I did have a lot of setbacks from some colleagues (I use friend very cautiously) who didn’t understand what I could make from $2.00CAD. They would say things like,” if I know 100 people and each of them buys a button, all I would have is $200CAD or $250CAD. What next after that?

I got discouraged a couple of times especially when I wrote countless letters to Comic Stores, Film Companies, Theatres, Cinemas to purchase make buttons especially for movies like Watchmen, Spiderman etc or for their Online Stores. I wrote to Banks, Companies, Conglomerates suggesting buttons as new marketing strategies or as gifts to kids & customers for Christmas, during promos. I either got rejection replies or no replies at all.

I still encouraged myself and decided to be aggressive and more passionate about my business. I decided to make Pearl Creations more legit and international, not just a facebook group. I took an online tutorial on website designing and spent days making one. The initial one is nothing compared to what it is now (http://www.pearlkreations.com/). I’ve redone and edited the website more than 50 times; I figured it would make me appear to be more driven. Even if I get it professionally done, it would look the same just with added creativity.

When I did tell my parents, they wanted to be assured my grades weren’t suffering; they were so proud and supportive, may be because all I told them were the success stories lol. My dad even gave me some pointers and lots of good business advice the last time I saw him before he passed into glory.

15.WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER UPCOMING ENTREPRENEURS?
The key is to never give up and keep your dream alive. Remember, I mentioned I didn’t get replies? I thought it was because I mentioned I was Nigerian (everyone knows what the word is about Nigerians and Scams) in my letters so I left it out of my letters, but things still didn’t look up. Everything happens for a reason. I think it’s important never give up. To make sacrifices and take every opportunity you get to showcase yourself.

8. OUTSIDE THE BUSINESS SCENE, WHO IS SLY?

Right from primary school, my friends nicknamed me: “the sly guy” or “sly”. However, Sly is the nickname that has stuck through the years. Some say it isn’t too far from the description of my character.

Character-wise, I’m always composed, confident, easy to talk to, friendly, NEVER in a hurry, neat, meticulous, overly articulate and strategic in my actions. I went through a grooming & etiquette school a summer when I was in Middle School which accounts for most of my gentlemanly character (others are from my dad).
I’ve been told I can be funny. I also laugh a lot, can be manipulative, sometimes naughty (which humours people) and quite sarcastic.

Emotionally, I can be way too generous and nice. On the flip side, I can also be callous, but also very caring towards my family & friends (very few of them). I hardly get angry and only three (3) things get me upset. When I do get angry, I must be have been really pissed. It could be terrible because I have the tendency to be vengeful.

My strong points, I’m a deep thinker, analytical, detailed, sharp memory and a good listener.
I eat healthy, somewhat adventurous and I’ll try anything…at least once.

My hobbies are business, chess and movies. I’m quite the movie buff- I love watching movies! I watch stream them or watch them as soon as they’re out in the Cinema. Either way, I watch at least two (2) movies a week. I like 80s Music, Alternative, Classical, R & B, Soft Rock. I like basically anything that’s catchy and pleasing to the ears. I blog and follow a couple blogs. I don’t tweet…not yet though. I follow lots of TV series like Entourage, Fringe, House, How I met your Mother, The Mentalist, and Two & A Half Men.

Others, I’m a worker in church- The Redeemed Christian Church of God…an Usher specifically. love the colours red, brown and green; and I’m usually in a dress shirt, jeans and a caddy.

9. ARE YOU SINGLE/MARRIED/ENGAGED? LOL
I’m engaged to be married in May. Just kidding! I’m neither.
After my last relationship, I decided to take a break from exclusive dating for while. I don’t think I can commit to business and a lady at the same time. Both would need my undivided attention and I don’t that kind of have time on my hands. Couple that with school, and it would be a disaster waiting to happen.
I don’t want to commit to anyone if I couldn’t spend enough time with her. I recently started dating though.

10. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A WOMAN? LOL
I think I’m pretty simple.
I like cool-headed, down-to-earth, focused, God-fearing pleasant, well-mannered and spontaneous ladies. Intellect is a huge plus. I find smart, well read ladies very sexy.
Physically, I’m usually drawn to slim, toned, fit and light-skinned ladies, but I have dated a couple of dark-skinned girls. I don’t discriminate lol.
I’m a sucker for a beautiful smile and abs too.

11. APART FROM MAKING/DESIGNING BUTTONS DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?
I play a lot of PlayStation adventure and mission video games.
I love to play
I love board games especially chess and ludo; and work out.
I watch basketball and soccer whenever they’re on TV, though I’m not much of a soccer fan.
Did I mention I’m a movie buff? lol.

12. DO YOU INTEND ON GOING INTO BUTTON MAKING FULL TIME?
Yes I do. I’m already into buttons full-time…sort of.
We do buttons for the Olympics, winter Olympics and lots of movies…which is a job already. We did for Watchmen, Chronicles of Narnia, Star Trek, Star Wars Clones, Looney Toons, AstroBoy, XMen Origin, and just concluded the Edward & Jacob Buttons Sale for the Twilight Saga: New Moon.

13. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?
As I mentioned earlier, the buttons business is just the beginning.
I’m just about completing the registration of The SKA Group in Canada. It is the Umbrella Company for Pearl Creations and some others.
I hope to develop and at least operational before I turn 32 (I’m 22 presently). You may follow on my progress, id you wish to on http://theskagroup.blogspot.com/
.

I think it’s healthy to dream. I think it gives you a purpose and something to live for.
I want to have a legacy and impact the world in such a way that years after I’m gone, I’ll be a reference point.
I have big dreams, but I believe they’re not big enough because there’s no such thing as impossible!

14. WHERE CAN YOUR BUTTONS BE PURCHASED?
They can be ordered on:
1. Facebook: Write your order on the wall of Pearl Kreations
2. Email: send your order to service@pearlkreations
3. Website: send your order via the messenger on the website. The link is: http://www.pearlkreations.com/messenger.html
4. Phone: +1-289-396-8864

I’ll use myself as an example. I sold buttons at any event that would have me. Once, I sold buttons at a Festival in Hamilton called the Tiara Festival. It cost me $70.00CAD to get a table there, but I paid it. It went from 9:00am to about 7:00pm and I sold only about 10- 15 buttons so I didn’t make anything close to the $70.00CAD back. Around 5:30pm when I was about giving up and packing up like a lot of the other merchants, a lady walked up to my table and asked about the buttons. So I told her and talked with a lot of enthusiasm, she smiled, gave me her notepad and told me to write my name, email, telephone number and about my buttons. She explained that she is a reporter & columnist for The Hamilton Spectator (the biggest and most widely read newspaper in the city) and that she would like to do an exclusive on me, I thought I was dreaming. She called me to come for a photo shoot and interview later on. In a week, I was a full page story in the Hamilton Spectator! “Mr. Buttons…He’s Right on the Button http://www.thespec.com/news/article/157224–he-s-right-on-the-button

That’s how I got more people, popularity and fans. I went with my signature bag for the shoot so when people saw me after then, they would ask,” Are you Mr. Buttons?”. Even at the bank one day, a teller asked if I was Mr Buttons and ordered for two (2) Denmark National Buttons.

What I’m trying to say is even though I thought I had wasted $70.00CAD, I ended up making more than that eventually. It was the grace of God, that same article and the fact that I’m a Student that got me a contract for the Beijing Olympics cuz I started adding the link in my emails and letters to proof of my Company’s authenticity.

Secondly, be cautious and don’t underestimate yourself. I dared to write the Olympic Committee, and I got the contract…it was to co-sponsor, but beyonf rewarding nonetheless. That opened doors I could have never imagined. I have talked to CEOs, some influential men and women. I have spoken to and have the mobile number of the CEO of F.I.F.A.’s branding Company. I met all these people because I went the extra mile. I wrote Warner Bros because I wanted to make Watchmen buttons, but didn’t want to get sued doing the buttons (being cautious). They didn’t say I couldn’t make and sell them in their reply to me, but they said they wouldn’t be able to buy them from me.

Thirdly, take constructive criticism & always ask for feedback from customers so you can improve and continue to impress. Apart from people writing the wall of the groups, there is a feedback section on the website where people put their views and comments. Complaints led me to expand and introduce the bigger sizes of 1.25-inches and 1.5-inches as opposed to just the default 1.0-inch buttons.

G.Y.E PRESENTS FUNFERE KENIYE KOROYE.”I AM A DESIGNER BY BIRTH AND AN ENGINEER BY NATURE”

Funfere Keniye Koroye

Funfere Keniye Koroye is one young man who stands out in the crowd,he stands out not only for his impeccable style or his mind blowing designs but also for his intellects.Funfere who is currently a second year student of  Industrial Engineering at Savannah College of Arts & Design, is not just an ordinary student but one thats on the Deans list.Funfere is definately a force to reckon with and we at GidiNoize were privileged to have an interview with this talented chap.

GidiNoize Interviews Funfere Keniye Koroye.

1.WHO IS FUNFERE KOROYE?

Funfere koroye is the definition of “cool” lol, even though that word is used in a very uneducated way but for real though I am who you want me to be; I am a lover and a hater, a cynic and a romantic. I am a designer by birth and an engineer by nature. I say a lot and too little, yeah I know I am a parody of myself and that’s what makes me wake up to this hard knock life we live in. Don’t go to bed without being all of you in everyday of your life.

2.CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND(EDUCATIONAL,FAMILY)?

Well I have been to so many schools, damn, seat of wisdom, genesis, Christ the redeemers college, trinity international college, British international school, academy of art San Francisco and now Savannah college of art and design. Not sure why I have switched so many times but I always had a reason. I used to live in Maryland in Lagos then moved to Lekki phase 1. I am the only son of my father (unfortunately) and I have three sisters who I kind of like, joking, love them to death. I grew up in humble beginnings, my father Mr. Koroye works in a bank and my mom Mrs. Koroye builds and sells houses formerly a fashion designer until Nigerians messed that up by not buying local. They have always supported me and I thank them for that.

3.WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD A KNACK FOR FASHION?

As a kid I always picked my outfit, when most people left it up to their mums and ended up looking a hot mess. I had phases from the army man camouflage look to the church boy waistcoat and suit look. Yes I played dress up in my own way. People around me always asked where I got my clothes or told me how they wanted it. I never took it as stylish, I just did what I felt and some liked it, pretty sure some hated it too.

4.WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?

My style is too many things combined, I do as I please, and I can be preppy today and sporty tomorrow. The weather prescribed me my medication to my dedication for style. Don’t step out of the house and tell yourself you didn’t have enough time to think about what you wore because that shows a lack of responsibility. I don’t always wear a tie but I look presentable. Sometimes I dress as I feel; I wear dark colors if I feel down and bright colors to show I am happy.

6.DOES YOUR STYLE REFLECT YOUR PERSONALITY,IF SO,HOW?

Well I wouldn’t say my style reflects my personality, I have been asked if I am in a marching band but I say no and people wonder why I wear band jackets. I wear what I want so I guess my personality is outgoing and unpredictable. On second thoughts my style represents my fluidity and dynamism.

7.WHATS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR STYLE?

Inspiration is too vast to pin point. I have always admired Michael Jackson, Pharrell Williams, Jimi Hendrix and Outkast. I love people with personality and flare. I don’t mean wear a chicken as a hat and expect my adoration but don’t follow trends and you will be you. I also draw inspiration from surroundings, in California I got introduced to skinny jeans and the scarves and in London the graphic tees and skinny ties. I look around and inspiration is always in plain sight.

8.CAN YOU LIST A COUPLE OF CELEBS IN GIDI AND BEYOND WHO’S STYLES APPEAL TO YOU?

This is tough, in Lagos I never actually see anyone in the entertainment industry that inspire me. I mean M.I., Naeto C and 2face idibia are decent in their style but they are fairly new to what I consider stylish in Lagos, actually I like Denrele Edun’s bravery but not all of what he wears haha. As mentioned before I like the Pharrell Williams, Jimi Hendrix and Outkast with the addition Justin Timberlake, The Dream, Jeremih, Kanye West and Jean Paul Gautier. Honestly most stylish just have money and no real sense of style.

9.WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE STORES?

When it comes to stores I don’t do expensive (for the most part)

10.WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNERS?

· Marc Jacobs

· Donatella Versace

· Oscar de la Renta

· Kanye west

· Tom ford

11.OUTSIDE THE FASHION/STYLE SCENE, WHO IS FUNFERE?

Outside of style I am an industrial designer; I am sure you are making up definitions that don’t apply to what it really means. I design and make everything, yes everything. I design and make toys, phones, cars, boats, planes, cutlery, furniture interiors, alternative energy and even pens. I love what I do as an innovator and it gives me a chance to incorporate style into the ugly beasts that engineers come up with (sorry engineers). I am going strong for two years, hope to start my own design consultancy and energy logistics company in Nigeria and spread across Africa. My website http://www.funferekoroye.com shows my work in more details. I strongly believe that before I die I have leave inspiration and awe in the minds of the people around me and my career choice is my one true way of doing that.

12.ARE YOU SINGLE?LOL

Well everyone is single if they are not married, trust me I know I am right. Yes I am single, not too long ago I was in a relationship but work got in the way.

13.APART FROM FASHION DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST?

I love to write music, books and poems. I love building and creating, any form of art and design is my passion. I like to blog and generally show the world for its creativity and sometimes its destruction. No joy without pain. I also dabble in a majority of sports from soccer to badminton; I believe good health is good wealth.

14.DO YOU INTEND ON GOING INTO THE CLOTHING INDUSTRY IN FUTURE PERHAPS OWNING YOUR OWN CLOTHING LINE?

Right now I am working on my clothing; my website for the line http://www.fusionkelvar.bigcartel.com is a work in progress. I am working with my partners to get investors to get it off the ground. I hope I don’t disappoint myself and lose momentum.

15.WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

In ten years, I see an office view with my name on the building. I want to be the man in charge of his own destiny. Funfere will be a name to reckon with in the world of industrialization. I pray my work will be in every shelf, drawer, bathroom and closet space.

16.WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WHO LACK DRESS SENSE?LOL

Ok for you guys looking a hot mess (forgive me) just put a simple shirt and jeans (no stupid slogans) please forget how you rep “Naija” or how u are a bad girl if it doesn’t look tasteful. It looks tacky when I have to read a whole story on your shirt. If u stuck type my blog: http://www.funferekoroye.blogspot.com. I always have tips to keep you styling and save you money. Don’t try to look Hollywood in Nigeria because it’s a 100 degrees fool, stop wear fur coats and wool scarves. I see you guys and girls glistening with you bedazzled tops, not a good look if you not a background dancer for Britney spears. Please stop giving Africans a bad name. When people see me they know am not American but at least they don’t think I am oblivious to style. You can be African and still be stylish. In Lagos look up my home boy Adebayo lawal in Lagos, always on point in formal and traditional.

17.IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WONT BE CAUGHT DEAD WITHOUT?

I can’t leave the house without a fresh wrist watch, a fitted shirt, a clean haircut and some out of this world eyewear. From time to time I put on a scarf “Gucci bandana” or two, my rosaries, bracelets and my Louis back pack.

18.IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WONT BE CAUGHT DEAD IN?

I will never be seen in an extra long white tee, baggy three quarters, baggy jeans, grills, hot pants, a man thong, fish net shirt, bell bottoms, a shower cap(sorry snoop), fur coats in the summer, fur boots in the summer and please no jean shirt on jean pants unless you singing country music. If I continue I will start to offend, I know some things aren’t accepted like my skinny jeans or man purse even though the educated term is luggage. Don’t wear anything that makes you look like you need divine intervention; friends please let each other know when you look like a storm in an old lady’s closet. I am not trying to hate of people who don’t work out but don’t wear tops that hug to tight if it is not attractive.

FUNFERE’S STYLE AND DESIGNS.
